Zombierella

In Year 4, the children have loved reading 'Zombierella' as part of our Guided Reading lessons. Of course we know all about the traditional Cinderella story but this book is a hilarious, poetic retelling of the well-known fairy tale with a gruesome twist. 

After slipping and dying on the stairs, Cinderella is revived by the Shadow of Death and returns as “Zombierella,” allowed to live for only three nights. Her dead horse Lumpkin comes back to life and she attends the prince’s grand balls, seeking both love and revenge on her cruel stepfamily. Instead of leaving behind a glass slipper, she loses a whole foot, sparking a grim search for the true bride.

Cartwright said, “I thought it was funny when Zombierella pulled her guts and brain out in front of her evil stepsisters and made them faint.”

Annabelle said, “I liked the part when Zombierella's horse came back to life to get her to the ball. I hope the prince finds Zombierella with the missing foot.”
