A World of Amazing Adventures
This half term, Year 6 have been travelling the world through their Guided Reading text, Darwin’s Voyage of Discovery. From England to Brazil, the Galapagos Islands to Australia, the children have been captivated by Charles Darwin’s incredible journey and the fascinating discoveries he made along the way.
The class have been blown away by Darwin’s observations and how his theories continue to have great importance in shaping how we understand the world today. They have enjoyed learning about the wide variety of plants and animals Darwin studied, as well as the challenges he faced during his long and adventurous voyage.
The children have shared some thoughtful reflections on their learning:
Mohammed commented, “I didn’t know there were so many different types of finches! They all have different beaks.”
Luna was amazed to learn that “Charles Darwin was on his voyage for nearly five years! He collected all the specimens and sent them back to his lab in London.”
It has been wonderful to see Year 6 so engaged, curious and enthusiastic about this important piece of scientific history. Their discussions show a growing understanding of how exploration, observation, and curiosity can change the way we see the world.
