Y5 Author Visit

Year 5 were lucky enough this week to be visited by the best-selling author of The Final Year, Matt Goodfellow. We have thoroughly enjoyed reading The Final Year as a class in DEAR time and it is unique in the way it is written as a verse novel. This means the story is told through poetry and the main character, Nate, expresses his thoughts and feelings of the challenges he faces in the final year of primary school. During his visit, Matt taught the children how to write through poetry and everyone in the class had a go at writing their own poems in his style. Overall, it was a great morning and everyone in 5BC enjoyed meeting an author as successful as Matt has been and hopefully he has inspired some of the children to be future poets!

Tyreece - 'I loved meeting Matt and I am going to start writing poems about my ideas in my notebook. He is also from Manchester like me and I like the fact he used to be a teacher.'

Edward - 'I am enjoying reading The Final Year and the fact every page is written like a poem makes the story more interesting. It was great to hear all about the writing process and how a book is published.'
