World Book Day

In Year 4, the children made a fantastic effort to celebrate World Book Day by dressing up as a word of their choice. They arrived at school proudly showing off their imaginative costumes, and it was wonderful to see the wide range of ideas they had come up with. The outfits were incredibly creative, and it was clear that a great deal of thought, time and hard work had gone into designing and making them. Both the children and the adults who helped them should be very proud of the effort that was made to bring these words to life.

Throughout the day, the classroom was full of excitement as the children shared their chosen words and explained the ideas behind their costumes. It was lovely to see how enthusiastic they were about language, reading and storytelling. In Year 4, we have a real love for reading, and World Book Day gave us a fantastic opportunity to celebrate just how important books are in our lives.

In our whole-class guided reading sessions, we are currently exploring a fascinating non-fiction book all about the sky, including the Solar System and the wonders of space. The children have been really engaged with learning about planets, stars and galaxies, and this topic even inspired some of their World Book Day outfits. A few children chose to dress up as the word “galaxy”, linking their costumes to the exciting knowledge they have been developing during our reading lessons.

The children enjoyed reflecting on all the different texts they have explored this year and talking about how much they have learned through reading a wide range of books, both in school and at home. From exciting adventures to fascinating non-fiction, reading continues to play a big part in our learning. It was a wonderful day that reminded us all of the joy that books can bring and how reading helps us to learn, imagine and discover new ideas.
